Tefilat HaDerekh

The traveler’s prayer asks God for a peaceful arrival and protection on the way. It is said on going out, not as a substitute for ordinary daily prayer. Said at the start of a journey, once the traveler has left the city’s settled area.

yehi ratzon milfaneikha adonai eloheinu veilohei avoteinu

May it be Your will, Lord our God and God of our ancestors,

shetolikheinu leshalom vetatzideinu leshalom vetadrikheinu leshalom

that You lead us in peace, direct our steps in peace, and guide us in peace,

vetagi'einu limkhoz kheftzeinu lekhayim ulesimkhah uleshalom

and bring us to our destination in life, joy, and peace.

vetatzileinu mikaf kol oyev ve'orev velistim vekhayot ra'ot baderekh

Rescue us from the hand of every enemy, ambush, bandit, and wild beast on the way,

umikol minei puraniyot hamitragshot lavo la'olam

and from all kinds of disasters that stir to come upon the world.

vetishlakh berakhah bekol ma'aseh yadeinu

Send blessing in all the work of our hands,

vetitneinu lekhen ulekhesed ulerakhamim be'einekha uve'einei kol ro'einu

and grant us grace, kindness, and compassion in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us.

Hear the voice of our pleas, for You are God who hears prayer and supplication.

barukh atah adonai shomei'a tefilah

Blessed are You, Lord, who hears prayer.
