The three verses from Numbers ask God to bless, protect, and grant peace. Parents often place hands on a child’s head and recite them on Friday night. Said by kohanim in the Amidah on festivals in the Diaspora, and daily in many Israeli communities; also used as a blessing over children.
yevarekhekha adonai veyishmerekha
May the Lord bless you and protect you.
ya'er adonai panav elekha vikhunekha
May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
yisa adonai panav elekha veyasem lekha shalom
May the Lord lift His face toward you and grant you peace.
