Eshet Chayil

אֵשֶׁת חַיִל מִי יִמְצָא וְרָחֹק מִפְּנִינִים מִכְרָהּ

eshet khayil mi yimtza verakhok mipeninim mikhrah

A woman of valor who can find? Her worth is far beyond rubies.

בָּטַח בָּהּ לֵב בַּעְלָהּ וְשָׁלָל לֹא יֶחְסָר

batakh bah lev ba'alah veshalal lo yekhsar

Her husband’s heart trusts in her, and he lacks no spoil.

גְּמָלַתְהוּ טוֹב וְלֹא רָע כֹּל יְמֵי חַיֶּיהָ

gemalathu tov velo ra kol yemei khayeha

She deals him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.

דָּרְשָׁה צֶמֶר וּפִשְׁתִּים וַתַּעַשׂ בְּחֵפֶץ כַּפֶּיהָ

darshah tzemer ufishtim vata'as bekhefetz kapeiha

She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.

הָיְתָה כָּאֳנִיּוֹת סוֹחֵר מִמֶּרְחָק תָּבִיא לַחְמָהּ

hayetah ka'oniyot sokher mimerkhak tavi lakhmah

She is like the merchant ships; she brings her food from afar.

וַתָּקָם בְּעוֹד לַיְלָה וַתִּתֵּן טֶרֶף לְבֵיתָהּ וְחֹק לְנַעֲרֹתֶיהָ

vatakom be'od lailah vatiten teref leveitah vekhok lena'aroteiha

She rises while it is still night and gives food to her household, and a portion to her attendants.

זָמְמָה שָׂדֶה וַתִּקָּחֵהוּ מִפְּרִי כַפֶּיהָ נָטְעָה כָּרֶם

zamemah sadeh vatikakhehu miperi khapeiha nat'ah karem

She considers a field and takes it; from the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

חָגְרָה בְעוֹז מָתְנֶיהָ וַתְּאַמֵּץ זְרוֹעֹתֶיהָ

khagrah ve'oz motneiha vate'ametz zero'oteiha

She girds her loins with strength, and makes her arms strong.

טָעֲמָה כִּי טוֹב סַחְרָהּ לֹא יִכְבֶּה בַלַּיְלָה נֵרָהּ

ta'amah ki tov sakhrah lo yikhbeh valailah nerah

She senses that her merchandise is good; her lamp does not go out at night.

יָדֶיהָ שִׁלְּחָה בַכִּישׁוֹר וְכַפֶּיהָ תָּמְכוּ פָלֶךְ

yadeiha shilkhah vakishor vekhapeiha tamkhu falekh

She sets her hands to the distaff, and her palms hold the spindle.

כַּפָּהּ פָּרְשָׂה לֶעָנִי וְיָדֶיהָ שִׁלְּחָה לָאֶבְיוֹן

kapah parsah le'ani veyadeiha shilkhah la'evyon

She opens her palm to the poor, and reaches out her hands to the needy.

לֹא תִירָא לְבֵיתָהּ מִשָּׁלֶג כִּי כָל בֵּיתָהּ לָבֻשׁ שָׁנִים

lo tira leveitah mishaleg ki khol beitah lavush shanim

She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.

מַרְבַדִּים עָשְׂתָה לָּהּ שֵׁשׁ וְאַרְגָּמָן לְבוּשָׁהּ

marvadim astah lah shesh ve'argaman levushah

She makes coverings for herself; her clothing is linen and purple.

נוֹדָע בַּשְּׁעָרִים בַּעְלָהּ בְּשִׁבְתּוֹ עִם זִקְנֵי אָרֶץ

noda bashe'arim ba'alah beshivto im ziknei aretz

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits with the elders of the land.

סָדִין עָשְׂתָה וַתִּמְכֹּר וַחֲגוֹר נָתְנָה לַכְּנַעֲנִי

sadin astah vatimkor vakhagor natenah lakena'ani

She makes a linen garment and sells it, and she supplies a belt to the merchant.

עוֹז וְהָדָר לְבוּשָׁהּ וַתִּשְׂחַק לְיוֹם אַחֲרוֹן

oz vehadar levushah vatiskhak leyom acharon

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the later day.

פִּיהָ פָּתְחָה בְחָכְמָה וְתוֹרַת חֶסֶד עַל לְשׁוֹנָהּ

piha patkhah vekhokhmah vetorat khesed al leshonah

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and a teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

צוֹפִיָּה הֲלִיכוֹת בֵּיתָהּ וְלֶחֶם עַצְלוּת לֹא תֹאכֵל

tzofiyah halikhot beitah velekhem atzlut lo tokhel

She watches the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

קָמוּ בָנֶיהָ וַיְאַשְּׁרוּהָ בַּעְלָהּ וַיְהַלְלָהּ

kamu vaneha vaye'ashruha ba'alah vayehalelah

Her children rise and call her happy; her husband praises her:

רַבּוֹת בָּנוֹת עָשׂוּ חָיִל וְאַתְּ עָלִית עַל כֻּלָּנָה

rabot banot asu khayil ve'at alit al kulanah

Many daughters have done valiantly, but you surpass them all.

שֶׁקֶר הַחֵן וְהֶבֶל הַיֹּפִי אִשָּׁה יִרְאַת יְיָ הִיא תִתְהַלָּל

sheker hakhen vehevel hayofi ishah yir'at adonai hi tithalal

Charm is a lie and beauty is vapor; a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

תְּנוּ לָהּ מִפְּרִי יָדֶיהָ וִיהַלְלוּהָ בַשְּׁעָרִים מַעֲשֶׂיהָ

tenu lah miperi yadeiha vihaleluha vashe'arim ma'aseiha

Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
