Lekha Dodi

לְכָה דוֹדִי לִקְרַאת כַּלָּה פְּנֵי שַׁבָּת נְקַבְּלָה

lekha dodi likrat kalah penei shabbat nekabelah

Come, my beloved, to meet the bride; let us welcome the face of Shabbat.

Refrain, sung after each stanza.

שָׁמוֹר וְזָכוֹר בְּדִבּוּר אֶחָד הִשְׁמִיעָנוּ אֵל הַמְּיֻחָד

shamor vezakhor bedibur ekhad hishmi'anu el hameyukhad

“Keep” and “Remember” in one utterance did the unique God cause us to hear.

יְיָ אֶחָד וּשְׁמוֹ אֶחָד לְשֵׁם וּלְתִפְאֶרֶת וְלִתְהִלָּה

adonai ekhad ushemo ekhad lesheim uletif'eret velitehilah

The Lord is one and His name is one, for fame and for glory and for praise.

לִקְרַאת שַׁבָּת לְכוּ וְנֵלְכָה כִּי הִיא מְקוֹר הַבְּרָכָה

likrat shabbat lekhu venelekhah ki hi mekor haberakhah

To greet Shabbat, come, let us go, for she is the source of blessing.

מֵרֹאשׁ מִקֶּדֶם נְסוּכָה סוֹף מַעֲשֶׂה בְּמַחֲשָׁבָה תְּחִלָּה

merosh mikedem nesukhah sof ma'aseh bemakhshavah tekhilah

From the beginning, from of old, she was anointed: last in deed, first in thought.

מִקְדַּשׁ מֶלֶךְ עִיר מְלוּכָה קוּמִי צְאִי מִתּוֹךְ הַהֲפֵכָה

mikdash melekh ir melukhah kumi tze'i mitokh hahafekhah

Sanctuary of the King, royal city, rise, go out from the midst of the upheaval.

רַב לָךְ שֶׁבֶת בְּעֵמֶק הַבָּכָא וְהוּא יַחֲמוֹל עָלַיִךְ חֶמְלָה

rav lakh shevet be'emek habakha vehu yakhmol alayikh khemlah

Too long have you sat in the valley of weeping; He will have compassion on you.

הִתְנַעֲרִי מֵעָפָר קוּמִי לִבְשִׁי בִּגְדֵי תִפְאַרְתֵּךְ עַמִּי

hitna'ari me'afar kumi livshi bigdei tif'artekh ami

Shake yourself from the dust, arise; put on your garments of glory, My people.

עַל יַד בֶּן יִשַׁי בֵּית הַלַּחְמִי קָרְבָה אֶל נַפְשִׁי גְאָלָהּ

al yad ben yishai beit halakhmi korvah el nafshi ge'alah

Through the son of Jesse, the Bethlehemite, draw near to my soul, redeem it.

הִתְעוֹרְרִי הִתְעוֹרְרִי כִּי בָא אוֹרֵךְ קוּמִי אוֹרִי

hit'oreri hit'oreri ki va orekh kumi ori

Awake, awake, for your light has come; arise, shine.

עוּרִי עוּרִי שִׁיר דַּבֵּרִי כְּבוֹד יְיָ עָלַיִךְ נִגְלָה

uri uri shir dabri kevod adonai alayikh niglah

Awake, awake, utter a song; the glory of the Lord is revealed upon you.

לֹא תֵבֹשִׁי וְלֹא תִכָּלְמִי מַה תִּשְׁתּוֹחֲחִי וּמַה תֶּהֱמִי

lo tevoshi velo tikalmi mah tishtokhakhi umah tehemi

Do not be ashamed, do not be confounded; why are you downcast, and why do you moan?

בָּךְ יֶחֱסוּ עֲנִיֵּי עַמִּי וְנִבְנְתָה עִיר עַל תִּלָּהּ

bakh yekhesu aniyyei ami venivnetah ir al tilah

In you the poor of My people will take shelter, and a city will be built on its mound.

וְהָיוּ לִמְשִׁסָּה שֹׁאסָיִךְ וְרָחֲקוּ כָּל מְבַלְּעָיִךְ

vehayu limshisah sho'sayikh verakheku kol meval'ayikh

Those who spoiled you will be spoils, and all who would swallow you will be far away.

יָשִׂישׂ עָלַיִךְ אֱלֹהָיִךְ כִּמְשׂוֹשׂ חָתָן עַל כַּלָּה

yasis alayikh elohayikh kimesos khatan al kalah

Your God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over a bride.

יָמִין וּשְׂמֹאל תִּפְרֹצִי וְאֶת יְיָ תַּעֲרִיצִי

yamin usmol tifrotzi ve'et adonai ta'aritzi

Right and left you will spread out, and you will revere the Lord.

עַל יַד אִישׁ בֶּן פַּרְצִי וְנִשְׂמְחָה וְנָגִילָה

al yad ish ben partzi venismekhah venagilah

Through a man, the son of Perez, and we will be glad and we will rejoice.

בּוֹאִי בְשָׁלוֹם עֲטֶרֶת בַּעְלָהּ גַּם בְּשִׂמְחָה וּבְצָהֳלָה

bo'i veshalom ateret ba'alah gam besimkhah uvtzohalah

Come in peace, crown of her husband, also in gladness and in song.

The congregation turns to face the door, then turns back for the last words.

תּוֹךְ אֱמוּנֵי עַם סְגֻלָּה בּוֹאִי כַלָּה בּוֹאִי כַלָּה

tokh emunei am segulah bo'i khalah bo'i khalah

Amid the faithful of the treasured people; come, O bride, come, O bride.
