Ashrei frames Psalm 145 with two opening verses of blessing. The psalm is an alphabetic hymn of praise whose first lines bless God as king whose greatness cannot be searched out. Said in the morning and afternoon services, and in some rites a third time in the morning.
ashrei yoshvei veitekha od yehalelukha selah
Happy are those who dwell in Your house; they will praise You yet again, Selah.
Happy is the people for whom this is so; happy is the people whose God is the Lord.
I will exalt You, my God the King, and I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever.
gadol adonai umhulal me'od veligdulato ein kheker
Great is the Lord and highly praised, and His greatness cannot be searched out.
dor ledor yeshabakh ma'asekha ugvurotekha yagidu
Generation to generation will praise Your works, and they will tell of Your mighty acts.
