Friday Night Kiddush

וַיְהִי עֶרֶב וַיְהִי בֹקֶר יוֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁי

vayehi erev vayehi voker yom hashishi

And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

וַיְכֻלּוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ וְכָל צְבָאָם

vayekhulu hashamayim veha'aretz vekol tzeva'am

The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their host.

וַיְכַל אֱלֹהִים בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה

vayekhal elohim bayom hashevi'i melakhto asher asah

On the seventh day God finished the work that He had done.

וַיִּשְׁבֹּת בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי מִכָּל מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה

vayishbot bayom hashevi'i mikol melakhto asher asah

He ceased on the seventh day from all the work that He had done.

וַיְבָרֶךְ אֱלֹהִים אֶת יוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי וַיְקַדֵּשׁ אֹתוֹ

vayevarekh elohim et yom hashevi'i vayekadesh oto

God blessed the seventh day and made it holy,

כִּי בוֹ שָׁבַת מִכָּל מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים לַעֲשׂוֹת

ki vo shavat mikol melakhto asher bara elohim la'asot

for on it He ceased from all His work that God had created to do.

By your leave, gentlemen.

A call for attention before the blessing over wine.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הַגָּפֶן

barukh atah adonai eloheinu melekh ha'olam borei peri hagafen

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְרָצָה בָנוּ

barukh atah adonai eloheinu melekh ha'olam asher kideshanu bemitzvotav veratzah vanu

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has made us holy with His commandments and has taken pleasure in us,

וְשַׁבַּת קָדְשׁוֹ בְּאַהֲבָה וּבְרָצוֹן הִנְחִילָנוּ זִכָּרוֹן לְמַעֲשֵׂה בְרֵאשִׁית

veshabat kodsho be'ahavah uvratzon hinkhilanu zikaron lema'aseh vereishit

and with love and favor has given us His holy Shabbat as a heritage, a remembrance of the work of creation.

כִּי הוּא יוֹם תְּחִלָּה לְמִקְרָאֵי קֹדֶשׁ זֵכֶר לִיצִיאַת מִצְרָיִם

ki hu yom tekhilah lemikra'ei kodesh zeikher liyitzi'at mitzrayim

For it is first among the holy convocations, a remembrance of the going-out from Egypt.

כִּי בָנוּ בָחַרְתָּ וְאוֹתָנוּ קִדַּשְׁתָּ מִכָּל הָעַמִּים

ki vanu vakharta ve'otanu kidashta mikol ha'amim

For You have chosen us and made us holy from among all peoples,

וְשַׁבַּת קָדְשְׁךָ בְּאַהֲבָה וּבְרָצוֹן הִנְחַלְתָּנוּ

veshabat kodshekha be'ahavah uvratzon hinkhaltanu

and Your holy Shabbat, with love and favor, You have given us as a heritage.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ מְקַדֵּשׁ הַשַּׁבָּת

barukh atah adonai mekadesh hashabat

Blessed are You, Lord, who makes Shabbat holy.
