Clause 1
בשבת בשבת ל לחדש שנת לבריאת עולם למנין שאנו מונין כאן ב

On the [day] day of the week, the [day] of the month of [month], in the year [year] since the creation of the world, by the reckoning we count here in [city],
Clause 2
איך חתן בן אמר לה למרת בתולתא דא בת

the bridegroom [groom], son of [groom's father], said to this maiden, [bride], daughter of [bride's father]:

הוי לי לאנתו כדת משה וישראל
hevei li le-intu kedat moshe veyisrael
'Be my wife according to the law of Moses and Israel.'
Clause 4
ואנא אפלח ואוקיר ואיזון ואפרנס יתיכי ליקר נשי ישראל דפלחן ומוקרן וזנן ומפרנסן לנשיהון בקושטא
ve'ana eflach ve'okir ve'eizun ve'afarnes yatichi leyekar neshei yisrael defalchan umokran vezanan umefarnesan lenesheihon bekushta
'And I will work for you, honor you, feed you, and support you, as Jewish husbands do who work for, honor, feed, and support their wives faithfully.'
Clause 5
ויהיבנא ליכי מוהר בתוליכי כסף זוזי מאתן דחזי ליכי מדאורייתא
veyahivna lichi mohar betulaichi kesef zuzei matan dechazei lichi de'oraita
'And I hereby give you the settlement for your virginity, two hundred silver zuzim, which is due you by Torah law,'
Clause 6
ומזוניכי וכסותיכי וסיפוקיכי ומיעל לותיכי כאורח כל ארעא
umezonaichi vechesutaichi vesipukaichi ume'al lavatichi ke'orach kol ar'a
'and I will provide your food, clothing, and needs, and live with you as is the way of all the earth.'
Clause 7
וצביאת מרת בתולתא דא והות ליה לאנתו
vetzaviat marat... betulta da vehavat leih le-intu
And this maiden, [bride], consented, and became his wife.
Clause 8
ודין נדוניא דהנעלת ליה מבי אבוה בין בכסף בין בזהב בין בתכשיטין במלבושין בכלי תשמיש ובמטלטלין
vedein nedunya dehan'elat leih mibei avuha bein bechesef bein bezahav bein betachshitin bemalbushin bichlei tashmish uvemitaltelin
The dowry she brought him from her father's house, whether in cash, gold, jewelry, clothing, household goods, or other movable property, [sum],

הכל קבל עליו חתן דנן בסך
hakol kibel alav chatan denan besach
all of it the bridegroom accepted upon himself at the value of [sum],

וצבי חתן דנן והוסיף לה מדיליה עוד
vetzavi chatan denan vehosif lah midilei od
and the bridegroom willingly added from his own an additional [sum],

סך הכל נדוניא דן ותוספתא דא
sach hakol nedunya dan vetosefta da
for a combined total of [sum].
Clause 12
וכך אמר חתן דנן אחריות שטר כתובתא דא נדוניא דן ותוספתא דא קבלית עלי
vechach amar chatan denan achrayut shtar ketubata da nedunya dan vetosefta da kibalit alai
The bridegroom declared: 'I accept upon myself the responsibility for this marriage contract, this dowry, and this addition,'
Clause 13
ועל ירתי בתראי להתפרע מכל שפר ארג נכסין וקנינין דאית לי תחות כל שמיא
ve'al yartei batrai lehitpara mikol shefar arag nichsin uknyanin de'it li techot kol shemaya
'and upon my heirs after me, to be paid from all the best of the property and possessions I own under all the heavens,'
Clause 14
דקניתי ודעתיד אנא למקנא נכסין דאית להון אחריות ודלית להון אחריות כלהון יהון אחראין וערבאין לפרוע מנהון שטר כתובתא דא נדוניא דן ותוספתא דא
dekaniti ude'atid ana lemikna nichsin de'it lehon achrayut vedelit lehon achrayut kulhon yehon achra'in ve'arva'in lifra minhon shtar ketubata da nedunya dan vetosefta da
'both what I already own and what I will yet acquire, whether it carries a lien or not; all of it shall stand as security to pay this marriage contract, dowry, and addition,'
Clause 15
אפילו גלימא דעל כתפאי בחיי ובתר חיי מן יומא דנן ולעלם
afilu gelima de'al katfai bechayai uvatar chayai min yoma denan ul'alam
'even the cloak on my shoulders, in my lifetime and after it, from this day forever.'
Clause 16
ואחריות שטר כתובתא דא נדוניא דן ותוספתא דא קבל עליו חתן דנן כחומר כל שטרי כתובות ותוספתות הנהוגים בבנות ישראל העשוים כתקון חכמינו זכרונם לברכה דלא כאסמכתא ודלא כטופסי דשטרי
ve'achrayut shtar ketubata da nedunya dan vetosefta da kibel alav chatan denan kechomer kol shtarei ketubot vetosefetot hanehugim bivnot yisrael ha'asuyim ketikun chachameinu zichronam livrachah dela ke'asmachta ude-la ketofsei deshtarei
The bridegroom accepted responsibility for this marriage contract, dowry, and addition with the same binding force as all other marriage documents customary among the daughters of Israel, drawn up according to the enactment of our sages of blessed memory, not as a mere formality or a standard template.
Clause 17
וקנינא מן חתן דנן למרת דא על כל מה דכתוב ומפורש לעיל במנא דכשר למקניא ביה
uknina min chatan denan lemarat... da al kol mah dichtiv umeforash le'eil bemana dichsher lemikneya beih
And we, the witnesses, carried out a formal act of acquisition between the bridegroom and [bride] confirming everything written and stated above, using an instrument valid for the purpose,
Clause 18
והכל שריר וקים
vehakol sharir vekayam
and everything is valid and binding.
Clause 19
נאם עד נאם עד
ne'um eid, ne'um eid
[witness], witness, [witness], witness.
The two signing witnesses close the document; a ketubah is not valid without their signatures.
