The 100 most common words

A short list does most of the work in Biblical Hebrew. Particles and a handful of verbs open whole chapters.

How the list is built

The companion word list in this module follows standard printed lemma-frequency lists for the Hebrew Bible (particles split from their hosts). Exact rank moves when a dictionary treats ו or הַ as part of the next word, or when proper names are excluded. No occurrence counts are printed here.

What to learn first

The prefixed particles וְ הַ לְ בְּ אֵת מִן עַל אֶל, then אֲשֶׁר כֹּל לֹא כִּי, then הָיָה אָמַר עָשָׂה. After that, the nouns of family, land, and time. Genesis 1 recycles this set immediately.

Citation form versus text form

Lists give a dictionary shape (כֹּל, אֵת). The pageant in a verse may be כָּל־ or אֶת־. Learn both, and keep a grammar's paradigm chart nearby.
