How to start reading
A small grammar, the high-frequency list, and three short texts will carry you farther than a year of isolated drills.
Order of attack
Learn the square letters and final forms. Add niqqud. Drill the prefixed particles and the 100-word list. Then read Genesis 1:1–5 with a glossary, then the Shema, then Psalm 23. Parsing wayyiqtol early prevents a tense muddle.
What not to wait for
You do not need every weak-verb class before Genesis 1. You do not need paleo-Hebrew. You do not need Aramaic until Daniel. Keep a reference grammar for looking up, not for reading cover to cover first.
