What the evaluation is for
The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration describes its Department for Evaluation of Academic Degrees from Abroad as the body that compares an oleh’s foreign degree with the equivalent Israeli degree. In the public sector (government ministries, municipalities and government companies), the evaluation decides your academic salary ranking and your access to public tenders.
Nefesh B’Nefesh adds that the approval (אישור, ishur) from Misrad HaKlita should be accepted by both private and public employers, and that it should arrive within 45 working days of submitting. Regulated professions, such as medicine and nursing, have their own licensing on top of this.

Get the copies certified
Every page you upload needs a “certified true copy” (נאמן למקור) stamp from an Israeli lawyer. Absorption counselors at the ministry can stamp them instead, free of charge; bring the originals and the copies to the meeting.
Check the language
Documents in English, Spanish, French, Russian or Ukrainian do not need translating. Documents in other languages must be translated into Hebrew or English.
Upload the documents
For a bachelor’s degree: a certified copy of your ID card that shows your father’s name (both sides of a biometric card), the diploma, and the official transcript with credits and years of study. A master’s adds the bachelor’s documents or its evaluation; a doctorate needs one request per degree and an interview.
Wait for the certificate
The department reviews the documents and, if approved, issues an official evaluation certificate. Questions go to the ministry’s line, *2994.

Frequently asked questions
Who evaluates foreign degrees for olim?
For olim who made aliyah from 1 January 2025, the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration. For earlier olim, or those who applied before that date, the Ministry of Education.
Do I need to translate my diploma?
Not if it is in English, Spanish, French, Russian or Ukrainian. Documents in other languages must be translated into Hebrew or English.
Who can certify my copies?
An Israeli lawyer, with a “certified true copy” stamp on each page, or an absorption counselor at the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, free of charge.
How long does degree evaluation take?
Nefesh B’Nefesh says you should receive the approval within 45 working days of submitting. Doctorates take longer and include an interview.
Is the evaluation needed for private-sector jobs?
It is required in the public sector for salary ranking and tenders. Private employers may ask for it too, and Nefesh B’Nefesh says the Misrad HaKlita approval should be accepted by both.
