Dictation and Translation in Every Mac App

Hold a key, talk, let go

Your words appear wherever the cursor is: Mail, Slack, WhatsApp, Notes, a browser. Left Option for English, a function key you pick for Hebrew.

Translate as you talk

Hold Shift too. Speak English and Hebrew is typed, or speak Hebrew and English is typed. History keeps what you said next to the translation.

Stays on your Mac

Speech recognition and translation both run on the Mac. Your voice is never recorded to disk or sent anywhere.

Hebrew that holds up

Hebrew dictation runs ivrit.ai’s Whisper model, level with the best cloud services on ivrit.ai’s Hebrew leaderboard.

System Requirements

The setup window checks all of this on your Mac and says what’s missing.

Set Up in Three Steps

  1. Download and open

Double-click the zip, drag baba Voice to Applications, and open it.

  2. Follow the setup

It checks your Mac, asks for the microphone and for Accessibility (so it can hear the key and paste), and downloads the speech models.

  3. Sign in for translation

Dictation is free. To translate, sign in with the email you use for baba Pro.

How do I dictate in Hebrew on a Mac?

Install baba Voice, pick a function key for Hebrew in its setup, then hold that key and speak. The Hebrew text is typed into whichever app has the cursor. It runs ivrit.ai’s Hebrew speech model on the Mac, so it works offline and nothing you say is uploaded.

Can I speak English and have it typed in Hebrew?

Yes, with baba Pro. Hold Shift with the dictation key, speak English, and the Hebrew translation is typed. It works the other way too: hold Shift with the Hebrew key, speak Hebrew, and English is typed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free?

Dictation in English and Hebrew is free. Translating as you talk is part of baba Pro, the same plan as the baba translator on the web, iPhone and Android.

Does my voice leave my Mac?

No. Speech is turned into text on the Mac, and translation uses Apple’s on-device translator. The only network calls are the first model download, a daily update check, and, if you sign in, a check of your plan.

Why does it need Accessibility?

To notice when you hold the key and to paste the text into the app you’re using. It doesn’t read your screen or what you type.

Will the Hebrew be in the right gender?

Translations into Hebrew use the masculine form when the speaker’s gender matters (“I’m tired” becomes אני עייף). Dictating directly in Hebrew types exactly what you say.

Does it work on Windows or Intel Macs?

Not yet. It runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later), where the speech models run on the Neural Engine and GPU.

How do I update it?

baba Voice checks once a day and shows “Update available” in its menu bar when a new version is out. Download it here and replace the old app.

How do I remove it?

Quit it from the menu bar and drag baba Voice from Applications to the Trash. Its models are in ~/Library/Application Support/baba Voice.
