What the sal klita is
Nefesh B’Nefesh describes the sal klita as financial assistance from Misrad HaKlita. You receive an initial payment at Ben Gurion Airport, then a transfer once Misrad HaKlita has your bank details, and then six monthly installments, paid into your Israeli bank account between the 1st and the 15th of each month.
The amount depends on your age and family status, and it is updated from time to time, so we do not print figures here. The Nefesh B’Nefesh sal klita calculator shows the current sums for your family.
There are residency conditions. Nefesh B’Nefesh lists them: the sal klita goes to people who spent less than 24 months in Israel in the three years before aliyah, and no more than three years in the seven years before it, with a stricter rule for a Katin Chozer. Former A-1 residents receive both first payments by transfer, after their Teudat Oleh or Teudat Zakaut is issued.
How the payments reach you
At the airport
Misrad HaKlita pays the first part at Ben Gurion and hands you a Note of Future Bank Account, a form your bank will stamp.
Open an Israeli bank account
If you are married, open a joint account with both of you present, since the sal klita is paid to the family. The bank stamps the note. See opening a bank account.
Meet Misrad HaKlita
Call *2994 to book your first meeting at the local branch and bring the stamped form. You leave with confirmation of the dates the payments will be deposited. See Misrad HaKlita.
Watch your statement
The payments arrive between the 1st and the 15th of each month. Nefesh B’Nefesh suggests checking your bank statement to make sure each one arrived.
After month six
The sal klita ends. If neither spouse is working, you can apply to Misrad HaKlita for dmei kiyum (living allowance).

When are the monthly payments made?
Nefesh B’Nefesh says the sal klita is paid over the first six months after aliyah, between the 1st and the 15th of each month, into your Israeli bank account.
Does travelling abroad affect the sal klita?
Yes. Leaving Israel during the first six months stops the payments. If you return within the first year they restart 14 days after you come back, but missed months are not paid retroactively.
What comes after the sal klita?
If neither spouse is working after six months, you can apply to Misrad HaKlita for dmei kiyum. Rent assistance from the Ministry of Housing is a separate benefit that starts later in the first year.
