Where the number is used
The teudat zehut (ת״ז) number is Israel's national identifier: nine digits, assigned at birth or on becoming a resident, and used on the ID card, in banking, on tax and government forms, for medical care, and on most contracts that need to tie a document to a specific person. A form's ת״ז field expects exactly this number.
Most Israeli forms and systems check the digit locally before accepting a number, the same calculation this page runs. A valid check digit rules out a typo; it is not proof the number was ever assigned to anyone or that it matches the person presenting it.
