Writing a check in Hebrew

תאריך (date) is written day/month/year. לפקודת (to the order of) is the payee's name, exactly as they'd present ID for it. The amount box holds the digits; the line under it holds the same amount spelled out in words, ending in בלבד ("only"), which is what stops anyone from altering the amount after you sign. A crossed check, marked למוטב בלבד between two diagonal lines, can only go into the named payee's own bank account.

Post-dated checks are ordinary in Israel: a landlord, school or supplier will often take a stack of checks dated one per month rather than a single payment, and a bank will typically hold a check until its written date before clearing it.
