חנון
/khah-NOON/
Nerd, geek, grade-grubber, studious person
Chanun (חנון, pronounced khah-NOON) is the Israeli word for nerd or geek — someone who studies obsessively, asks too many questions in class, or prioritizes academics over social life. It was historically an insult but has become somewhat more neutral or even affectionate as tech culture elevated nerds. "Chanun tov" (good nerd) is now sometimes a compliment.
