Naomi Shemer, born at Kvutzat Kinneret, was commissioned to write a song about Jerusalem for the May 1967 song festival; "Yerushalayim Shel Zahav" ("Jerusalem of Gold"), premiered by Shuli Natan three weeks before the Six-Day War, became an unofficial anthem. Her catalog spans the state’s emotional history, and she received the Israel Prize in 1983.
She openly acknowledged that the melody echoes a Basque lullaby she had heard — a documented note this atlas preserves rather than hides.
