Authorship
Redacted under Rabbi Judah ha-Nasi and his circle.
Compiled around 200 CE in the Galilee under Rabbi Judah ha-Nasi, the Mishnah is the first written redaction of the oral Torah: sixty-plus tractates in six orders, from agriculture ("Seeds") to ritual purity, in terse Mishnaic Hebrew. It became the foundation document on which both Talmuds — Jerusalem and Babylonian — are built.
