Where did this word come from?
Osem launched Bamba in 1964 as a cheese-puff (a would-be Israeli Cheetos); it flopped. The peanut-butter flavor was the survivor, and Osem refocused the brand on it (press accounts commonly date the pivot to 1966; The Nosher 2024 confirms the 1964 launch and the pivot without the exact year — treat 1966 as well-supported). The Nosher records that ad-man Ofer Golan of the Ariely agency coined the name to mimic baby talk, so anyone "from kids to adults" could ask for it. It is now ~25% of Israel's snack market (potatopro, 2023) and entered medical history: Israeli kids' early Bamba exposure correlated with ~1/10 the peanut-allergy rate of UK Jewish kids — the observation that helped motivate the LEAP randomized trial (Du Toit et al., NEJM 2015), which transformed global allergy guidance toward early introduction.
