Biblical — root א.מ.נ "be firm, reliable" (emunah = faith). The response "amen" is biblical (Numbers 5:22; Deuteronomy 27; Nehemiah 8:6 — the great assembly). Christian texts kept it untranslated (Greek ἀμήν), and it passed into every Christian liturgy and thence to every European language; Arabic āmīn (آمين) serves identically in Islamic prayer. A rare case of a word traveling with essentially zero phonetic change.
