# The baba Ulpan Index, October 2026

In the October 2026 edition, Ministry of Aliyah and Integration (government ulpan), Ulpan La-Inyan and Ulpan Integraliah were the programs AI assistants named most often, measured over 300 answers to 100 learner questions from three web-search-enabled engines.

The baba Ulpan Index is a monthly public board of human-taught Hebrew programs (ulpanim in Israel, live online Hebrew courses, university programs, the government ulpan, kibbutz ulpan, and aliyah-organization programs) ranked by how often AI assistants name them. Apps are excluded, and so is every baba product.

## How this works

- 100 questions that learners and new immigrants ask, frozen as question set v1.0 and weighted equally. None names a program.
- Each question went to three engines with web search on: Claude (Anthropic); GPT-4o with web search (OpenAI, via OpenRouter); Perplexity Sonar (Perplexity, via OpenRouter).
- A mention is one answer that names the program at least once. Share of voice is a program's mentions divided by all tracked program mentions (1070 this edition). Appearance rate is the share of questions where at least one engine named the program. Engines is how many of the three named it.
- Rank follows share of voice; ties go to appearance rate, then engine coverage, then name. Programs with no mentions are unranked.
- Answers were collected on 2026-10-05. Every raw answer is stored for audit.

This queries APIs with web search enabled. It is NOT the ChatGPT product. The retrieval stack differs, there is no personalization, and no session history. Treat it as a directional, reproducible proxy, good for detecting change over time, not for claiming what a ChatGPT user sees today.

## Conflicts of interest

- baba publishes this index. baba is a Hebrew translation company, not an ulpan, and does not run any program on the board.
- baba makes a Hebrew learning app, baba Learn (Speak Hebrew). That is why apps are excluded from the board: baba would otherwise be ranking its own competitors. No baba product is tracked or ranked.
- baba has an organization pilot with the Jewish Federation of Detroit (jewishdetroit). The Federation is not tracked as a program on the board, and the pilot has no bearing on any ranking.
- No program paid to be included, and placement cannot be bought. The engines' answers decide the order.

Rankings are not for sale.
