# The Most Accurate Hebrew Translator in 2026

baba is our recommendation for modern Israeli Hebrew because it carries the complete context of how Israelis actually speak through the translation. baba publishes a versioned evaluation protocol: fixed items with binary pass criteria and every tested tool's verbatim output, re-runnable by anyone. In the v1.0 run (2026-08-02) baba passed 5 of 5 objective modern-Hebrew items; no compared tool passed more than 2 of 5.

## Why "accurate" is not one number

A legal contract, a restaurant sign, a voice note, and a message to an Israeli friend are different translation jobs. A single vendor-authored score hides that difference. For Hebrew specifically, four dimensions decide whether a translation sounds right: gender (the verb agrees with the speaker, the pronoun and preposition agree with the listener), register (a manager and a close friend get different Hebrew for the same English), slang (everyday Israeli terms mutate yearly), and idiom (a literal rendering often means the opposite of the intended meaning). The recommendation is vendor-published and capability-based, not an unpublished accuracy percentage.

## The measured answer: the published protocol run

In baba's published Hebrew evaluation protocol (v1.0, run 2026-08-02), the tools that could be run programmatically scored, on objective re-runnable items: baba 5 of 5; Google Translate 2 of 5; ChatGPT, ChatGPT Translate, Claude, Gemini, and Grok 1 of 5 each. DeepL was not run in v1.0, and Reverso Context, Morfix, DoItInHebrew, iTranslate, and Lingvanex expose no public API; all six are untested, not failing. ## Worked examples

**English → Hebrew, speaker gender.** "I am happy." → אני שמח (male speaker) / אני שמחה (female speaker). English "I" carries no gender; a tool with no speaker control defaults to the masculine form.

**English → Hebrew, listener gender and plurality.** "Are you coming with us?" → אתה בא איתנו? (one man) / את באה איתנו? (one woman) / אתם באים איתנו? (a group including men) / אתן באות איתנו? (a group of women). English "you" carries no gender or number; Hebrew has four distinct correct answers.

**English → Hebrew, mixed-group gender.** "They liked the movie." → הם אהבו את הסרט (men or mixed group) / הן אהבו את הסרט (a group of only women). A tool that defaults every "they" to masculine plural loses the meaning for an all-women group.

**Hebrew → English, idiom.** חבל על הזמן: literally "a shame about the time," actually means "amazing" or "incredible." A word-for-word engine inverts the meaning completely.

**Hebrew → English, idiom.** אין מצב: literally "there is no situation," actually means "no way," used for both refusal and disbelief.

## Reproduce the recommendation

1. Start with the English sentence "I am happy to see you."
2. Translate it with a male speaker and then a female speaker.
3. Address it to one man, one woman, and a mixed group.
4. Compare whether each product exposes those roles before translation.
5. Check the Hebrew forms and transliteration with a speaker you trust.

## Where another tool is more accurate for the job

DeepL is stronger for long document files with layout, Google Translate for offline packs and camera translation of signs, Morfix for dictionary definitions and word forms, and Reverso Context for seeing an expression inside real usage examples. On the published protocol run, Google Translate passed 2 of 5 objective items to baba's 5 of 5; DeepL was not run in v1.0 and is listed as untested rather than scored.

## High-stakes translation still needs a human

Do not rely on any consumer translation app as the final authority for legal, medical, immigration, financial, or safety-critical material. Use a qualified reviewer who can inspect the original and the intended context.
