# Israel time and time differences

Israel observes UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 during Israel Daylight Time, which puts Israel seven hours ahead of New York and two hours ahead of London for most of the year, and baba publishes a live Israel time converter. Israel has one time zone for the whole country. The clock changes twice a year, and the change dates are set for Israel rather than copied from the United States schedule.

## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Winter offset | UTC+2, Israel Standard Time |
| Summer offset | UTC+3, Israel Daylight Time |
| Time zones in Israel | One, for the entire country |
| Ahead of New York | Seven hours for most of the year |
| Israeli workweek | Sunday through Thursday |

## Does this file show the current time in Israel?

No. This markdown file is static and contains no live values, because a stated clock time would be wrong within an hour of writing it. The current time in Israel, and a converter that does the arithmetic for your own city, are on the HTML page at https://www.itsbaba.com/israel-time-converter.

## How many hours ahead is Israel?

Israel is ahead of the Americas and Western Europe, and behind Australia. The differences below hold when both places are in their usual seasonal time.

| City | Difference from Israel | Note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| New York | Israel is seven hours ahead | Six hours during clock-change mismatch weeks |
| Miami | Israel is seven hours ahead | Same zone as New York |
| Toronto | Israel is seven hours ahead | Same zone as New York |
| Chicago | Israel is eight hours ahead | Central time |
| Los Angeles | Israel is ten hours ahead | Pacific time |
| London | Israel is two hours ahead | Stable through almost the whole year |
| Paris | Israel is one hour ahead | Stable through almost the whole year |
| Sydney | Sydney is seven to nine hours ahead of Israel | Varies because the seasons are opposite |

## Why does the offset shift during the year?

Israel moves to daylight time in spring and back to standard time in autumn, which is the same practice most of Europe and North America follow. The shift itself does not change the difference to another city, as long as both places have already changed their clocks.

The difference changes only in the gaps. The United States starts daylight time earlier in March than Israel does, so for a stretch of days each spring New York is six hours behind Israel instead of seven. A similar mismatch happens in autumn, when Israel returns to standard time before the United States does. Europe and Israel change within days of each other, so the two-hour difference to London and the one-hour difference to Paris are stable almost all year.

## When are Israeli business hours, and when does the week end?

The Israeli workweek runs Sunday through Thursday. Sunday is a normal working day, and Monday morning in New York is a Monday afternoon in Israel that is already well advanced.

Friday is the short day. Many offices and shops close in the early afternoon, and public transport winds down before sundown. Shabbat runs from sundown Friday to nightfall Saturday, and most of the country is closed for it. If you send an email to an Israeli contact on Friday afternoon your time, the realistic reply window is Sunday morning in Israel.

For a call, the workable overlap with the United States East Coast is the New York morning, which is the Israeli late afternoon and early evening. From the West Coast, the overlap is early morning your time.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Israel on the same daylight saving schedule as the United States?
No. Israel sets its own change dates, and they do not match the United States dates. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the usual difference to American cities is off by an hour, which is why the live converter is more reliable than remembering a number.

### Does all of Israel use the same time?
Yes. Israel has a single time zone, so Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and Eilat all show the same clock time. Sunset times differ across the country, which matters for Shabbat, but the clock does not.

### What time should I schedule a call with someone in Israel?
The Israeli late afternoon is the safest slot for callers in the eastern United States, since it is late morning there. Avoid Friday, when Israeli businesses close early, and Saturday, when most are closed.

### Why can I not reach anyone in Israel on a Friday afternoon?
Friday is the last day before Shabbat, and the working day ends early. Offices, banks and most shops close in the early afternoon and reopen on Sunday.

## What baba does not do

- This markdown file states rules, not values. It never contains the current time in Israel, and the live clock lives only on the HTML page.
- baba is a Hebrew translation app. The time converter is a utility on the site, not a calendar or scheduling tool, and baba does not manage meetings for you.
- Clock-change dates are set annually by the relevant authorities, so a stated pattern is a description of current practice rather than a guarantee for a future year.
